Six Sentence Sunday #8 (More Ghosts!)

I can’t believe we’re into the last Sunday in July already. Where did the summer go? Needless to say, I’m still very much wrapped up in the rewriting of my WIP, Ghosts Don’t Wear Silk Stockings, and getting ready for a month-long editing process in August where I will break the story down chapter by chapter and make sure all the pieces are in the right place. After that is said and done, it’s clean-up time. I’ll comb through the manuscript several more times before it’s suitable for human eyes, or ghost eyes even.

But wait … that doesn’t stop me from sharing my little snippets during our Six Sentence Sunday fun day! I love participating and I love reading what other creative authors share on their own blogs. Want to check them out with me? Make sure you click HERE to visit the official Six Sunday website with a list of all participants.

Last week I posted the first six sentences of the novel. Today I jump forward a smidgeon and present you with a brief interaction between Brianna and Greer. Now that Dan has proposed, Greer is determined to make Brianna understand the danger she faces by marrying him…

“I’m trying to understand,” she said hoping to ease the tension between them.

“And don’t even think about children,” he said practically choking on the word, “You probably wouldn’t survive having one of his kind.”

“One of his kind,” she repeated with a sigh, imaging a smaller version of the Greek god that slept by her side. She decided she could do worse as long as their children took after their father in looks. It was not an entirely unappealing thought.

Ah the dilemma she faces… she is finally presented with the perfect man who wants her as much as she wants him but now she’s being told she can’t go through with it. What’s a girl to do?

Hope you’ll stop back next week for more…

Six Sentence Sunday #7 (Ghosts, chap 1)

Happy Six Sentence Sunday! If you’ve visited my blog before, you’ve already had a tempting taste of my soon-to-be-released novel titled Ghosts Don’t Wear Silk Stockings. If you’re new to the blog, then you don’t have to feel left behind because today I’m rewinding all the way back to the beginning to pluck my six sentences from the first chapter.

As a matter of fact, these are indeed the first six sentences of the entire novel! I’ve chosen these six in light of the fact that I will be sharing my first chapter in August as a special sneak peek at the novel before the release. Hopefully these six will intrigue you enough to return. (Make sure you click the LIKE button to the right to connect with me on my Facebook author page.)

Like my six? Then I highly recommend visiting the official Six Sentence Sunday website and checking out the other participants as well.

Dan Parker was six feet three inches and his own brand of delicious evil. Brianna Halloway had fallen for the wrong guy before. She’d been mixed up with married men, tangled in deceptive webs of womanizers and she’d even come across a few men that didn’t know the proper way to treat a lady. But never in all her years had she come across anything supernatural. Dan was a first in that department.

He lit a cigarette and gave her a sultry stare.

Ooohh Dan…

Six Sentence Sunday #6 (Ghosts)

As if I needed another reminder of how quickly time flies, I have Six Sentence Sunday. I almost forgot to sign up for it this week… that’s how behind I am. It feels as though I just combed my work-in-progress in order to come up with six sentences to share and here it is time to do it all again.

Not that I’m complaining, mind you. I love sharing my six as much as I love poking around to see what my fellow participants are up to. Be sure to visit the official site and check them out HERE.

Last week I changed gears from the WIP I’d been sharing to something completely new and not very developed. I am excited how well received that new work has been and I’m happy to say that I have it pegged as my September project. I’ll be able to focus all my time and attention to it once the  minions are back in school and I’ll have plenty more to share then.

For the moment? Well, I’ve got some good news. That manuscript that I’d finished and nearly dumped has found new life. Ghosts Don’t Wear Silk Stockings has undergone some serious overhaul during the week and if all continues to go well, I’m expecting a September release for sure. (It’s been touch-and-go for a while.) If you’re curious what this story is about, check out the ten questions I answered about it in my previous post titled “The Next Best Thing Challenge”. Since this is the manuscript getting all my attention right now, this is where I will pull my six over the next several weeks.

Without further ado, I leave you with another tense interaction between Brianna (my main character) and Greer. Greer has been adamant that under no conditions can Brianna go through with marrying Dan or she’ll ruin more lives than just her own. She’s trying to believe him but Dan just seems too perfect to let go…

“How do I know that I can really trust you?” she asked him, the conversation she had with Dan still fresh in her mind. Dan had made a good point and the more she thought about it, the more she wanted to believe that she could melt into his arms with no fear of putting the entire world in jeopardy by simply being happy.

Greer said nothing. His form simply wavered and returned like the flame of a candle threatening to go out, making him seem fragile.

“You don’t,” he said, “so if you have something on your mind that you need to tell me then why don’t you just say it?”

Six Sentence Sunday

I’ve really enjoyed participating in Six Sentence Sunday. If you’ve never heard of it, I suggest you click on the link and be sure to sample some of the other participants as well. You won’t be disappointed.

Over the last four weeks, I’ve shared snippets of my current work-in-progress titled Ghosts Don’t Wear Silk Stockings. I’ve gone back and forth quite a bit trying to decide whether I should continue with this or switch gears for a couple of weeks and test the waters with something new.

I have another project that I’m pretty excited about, although it’s still in the early stages. As a matter of fact, it doesn’t even have a title. At this point, I know my characters and I have a hazy idea of the general plot and even still, I have high hopes that this will expand into a three-book series. Well, we shall see about that, won’t we?

Anyway, enough of my rambling on about it. Let’s get to the good stuff, shall we? Without further ado, I present to you my “six”, a brief exchange between my two main characters (Sarah and Nathanial) about the true nature of their relationship…

When she turned back to face him, he was seated in the chair and looking out at the darkened landscape as though he’d been that way the entire time. The slight sting of loss resonated deep inside.

“We were enemies,” she said plainly. The words weren’t meant to hurt or challenge. She meant no recourse, only to state the simple fact out loud for her own ears to sample and taste.

“We still are,” he said getting up and moving from the room.

I hope I’ve tempted you enough to return next week for more. Until then…

Six Sentence Sunday

Hip, hip, hurray for another Six Sentence Sunday! For the past few weeks, I have been sharing snippets of a work-in-progtess titled Ghosts Don’t Wear Silk Stockings. (Next week I will switch to something new.)

Flash forward – Brianna’s world is falling apart. She’s lost contact with Greer, her ghost friend, and she still hasn’t come to any resolution in regards to Dan. Can she trust him? Hoping to find answers, she appeals to the creepy old woman who runs the bookshop where she first met Greer. She doesn’t have any reason to believe this woman can help her, but desperation is leading her down a dark path…

“I’m sorry,” Brianna said, “I didn’t realize you were closed.”

“Don’t be silly. I’ve been expecting you,” Emily said gesturing for Brianna to enter the dimly lit bookstore. Brianna hesitated before crossing the threshold and shoved her hands into her pockets trying to overcome the overwhelming chill that rattled her bones when she walked through the door. The place felt like death, she thought. She couldn’t get the thought out of her head even as she turned around to look at the ancient woman.

Thanks for stopping by. See you next Six Sentence Sunday. 🙂
