It’s that time again! Last week I made the unfortunate mistake of scheduling a post for the Weekend Writing Warriors Blog Hop but never adding my name to the official list. Oops! Don’t I feel silly? If you missed that post and would like to catch up, you can find it HERE.
Otherwise, onward and upward! The Weekend Writing Warriors are a group of several authors who come together on Sunday to share 8 to 10 sentences of a current work-in-progress. For the list of participants and details on how you can join in next week’s hop if you so desire, follow this link: http://www.wewriwa.com
I have been sharing snippets of Rise of the Angerroots, a story that I desperately hope to finish before spring. So far, I’ve been making great progress toward reaching that goal and I am eager to share with you a glimpse of my effort.
Max had mixed feelings about discovering his betrothed (Sarah) is still alive but when he confronts her, he realizes she doesn’t remember him. This gives him new hope – and new problems. As they get to know each other all over, bits of her memory return and it isn’t Max she has on her mind. Poor guy. And just when everything seemed to be going so well between them, too… What will he do?
**
She closed her eyes and gave in to it, her body responding with heat and desire, her head unable to process anything except the feel of his lips moving against hers and the touch of his hands sliding down her back. He grasped her firmly as their bodies melded together.
Overwhelmed, Sarah put her palms against his chest as though she wanted to push him away but when the flood of memories came back to her, she resisted. She tipped her head as Max planted kisses along her neck. His left hand moved to cup her breast, teasing the nipple through her blouse.
“Nathanial,” she whispered, lost to the sensation that made her body tremble and her mind come to life.
Suddenly he stopped and let go, putting distance between them.
She looked up at Max in shock. With eyes open, she realized the man she’d seen in her memory hadn’t been the man she’d been kissing.
“I’m sorry,” she whispered, her body still shaking, “I don’t know…”

Thank you for reading! Please feel free to share your thoughts. I look forward to reading them. See you next week…
Wow! THAT was a surprise. Great scene! Don’t worry, Stephanie, I made the same mistake last week, too!
Thanks, Nancy! Must have been something in the air last week. 🙂 Glad we both remembered this week though.
I was about to say, what a lovely, tender moment, and then . . .Oops, awkward!
Yeah, kind of spoiled it. 🙂 Thanks for reading, Christina!
Awe, I feel so sorry for him. Now what? Good snippet, Stephanie. You threw us a curve. 🙂
Thanks, Teresa. 🙂 It’s going to be a bumpy ride for these two.
Interesting encounter between these two! Great snippet.
Thank you, Veronica!
Both hot and heartbreaking. I feel bad for BOTH of them. It must be so hard not to know who you are, what choices you’ve made, who you really love (or if you love both). Very sad situation. Excellent snippet!
Thanks, Amalie. Yes, definitely not a good situation for either one of them. I wish I could say things will get better when her memory comes back but … Well, we’ll see. 🙂
Such a faux pas, even though she has a legitimate excuse for not remembering. I feel so bad for him. Which makes this an excellent snippet. Good job in tweaking my emotions.
Thank you, Jenna! 🙂 They are both caught in a tough spot for certain.
Very hot! But, uh oh, about the realization. Yikes! I’m curious as to his response.
Thanks, Jessica! 🙂 Just as well he’s a persistent guy and he has good reason to stick by her. Not going to be easy though!
Oopsie – how embarrassing for her. His response is going to be interesting.
Thanks, Daryl. 🙂
Oh, that’s why i couldn’t find your name last week. I was beginning to think I’d forgotten hwo to read. I scoured the list – lol.
Great snippet – love -LOVE – that plot twist.
Awww… Thanks, Victoria and thanks for looking for me. I am flattered! 🙂 Between New Year’s and celebrating my son’s birthday, I didn’t have my head on straight. hee hee
Ruh roh! Oops, letting the wrong name slip out..now whoever is this Nathaniel?? And does he have anything to do with her memory loss? Great snippet, really enjoying the tale.
Thanks. 🙂 Nathanial will most likely pop up in my snippets at some point since he’s a key player. I’m glad you’re enjoying and I hope you continue to do so!
What a way to kill the mood. Wonder how they’ll deal with it? Really great snippet.
Thanks, Alexis. 🙂
Nothing like someone else’s name on your lover’s lips to destroy the moment. I wonder if she’ll even be able to explain herself?
Thanks for reading, Caitlin. 🙂 She is only starting to remember bits and pieces of her past so that’s a tough one… but she’ll get there.
Hey, Stephanie, I’ve made that exact same mistake–scheduling a post but never signing up.
Whew! For a second I thought you were going to say you’d whispered the wrong name before! 😉
That made me laugh out loud, Joyce! 🙂 I guess it happens to the best of us at times.
Well, that’s awkward!
Indeed. Thanks for reading, Cara!
Wow, that had to hurt. I love the premise of this story and can’t wait to read more.
Thank you, Elaine. 🙂 I’m really happy you’re enjoying it so far.
Hot snippet with a surprise ending! I’ve also scheduled a post and forgot to sigh up! LOL!
Thank you, Dani. 🙂 I feel better knowing I’m not the only one who has forgotten to sign up. lol
Yikes, kissing one man and wishing to be kissing another. Didn’t expect that.
Tough place to be. Thanks for reading, Karen. 🙂
I agree with Amalie–this makes me sad for both of them! Looking forward to reading more to see how this plays out.
Thanks, Joyce. I hope you enjoy it as the story continues to unfold. 🙂
Worse than a cold shower. Poor Max!
Now, that is awkward! I feel badly for both of them!
