Six Sentence Sunday – I Have No Sympathy

It’s that time again … If you’ve taken the time to click on my blog then there is likely only one reason you’re here. You want to see my six.

Lucky for you, I’ve got six.

My current work-in-progress has hit a brick wall for the moment and still stands without a title. However, when I left you last Sunday, I did so with a promise that I’d return with an introduction to the third player in Nathanial and Sarah’s strange love triangle. Sarah may not remember much from her past but there are two mysterious men that have shown up in her life, both claiming to have a history with her. The second man we meet is Max and as you’ll see from the brief interaction pasted below, Max is holding a grudge…

***

“All I remember are bits and pieces of my childhood. There is an entire chunk of my life that was torn away from me and I don’t even know why.”

“Why? I will tell you why!” he shouted at her, “Because you are a selfish fool that risked us all for your own gratification! That’s why. I have no sympathy for you.”

***

Ouch, Max! Is this really the way to win a girl’s heart? Hmmm… we shall see. If nothing else, Max will certainly shake things up a bit for her.

Thanks for checking out my six. Now hop on over to the official website HERE and check out some of the other great participants in the Six Sentence Sunday fun.

Until we meet again…

Six Sentence Sunday – Despite the Voices in my Head

You know those pesky voices in your head? (Or is that just me?) Every week we seem to share the same conversation.

First, they tell me, “Let’s not do Six Sentence Sunday this week. We need time to delve into this new story before we share snippets with the world.”

I always laugh and say okay but then by about Thursday or Friday, I say, “Well, I didn’t manage to post much on my blog this week so it’s an easy way to get something fresh out there. I’m going to do Six Sentence Sunday again.”

The voices in my head sigh and roll their eyes. “Yeah, yeah, you always say it’s easy but just you wait until you open up your word document and actually try to pick out six sentences that are worth sharing.”

“It will be fine,” I assure the voices.

Then I open up Word. What I expect will take me about five minutes to choose, copy, paste, and schedule for Sunday, actually takes me half the day. Okay, maybe not that long … but the voices had a point. Choosing just six sentences is really, really tough. I admire all those that manage to do it every week and still kind of make sense too.

Don’t believe me? Click HERE and check out some of the other participants!

I’ve agonized over it long enough. This is my six, take it or leave it. It comes from my current work-in-progress that is still untitled. Sarah and Nathanial share a special, but unusual bond. She’s drawn to him in ways that she can’t begin to explain but yet, she knows he is dangerous. What is it that she finds so alluring about being with him?

***

“I have on many occasions sampled the blood that pours through your veins,” he admitted at last. She shuddered again but he ignored this as he gently kissed her lips.

“I still have questions,” she whispered as his breath caressed her cheeks.

“There is time.”

“My grandmother, she needs me.” She tried to push him away but he caught her shoulders and kept her firmly rooted in the chair.

That’s it for me and my supersonic six for this sunny Sunday. If you want more, you’re just going to have to return next Sunday. Hopefully the voices in my head won’t have succeeded in talking me out of it by then.

Six Sentence Sunday – Is it getting hot in here?

Hey, you! Yeah, you … psst… come over here. I’ve got something to share with you.

No, no, not that. Look again.

You got it! It’s Six Sentence Sunday! It’s that time of the week when yours truly and a whole host of other brilliant authors share a snippet of their latest and greatest. I love taking part in this as much as I love hopping around the other blogs to see what others are sharing. It’s fun. What? Don’t believe me? Try it and see ….

Before you click and run, here go my six of the week. I’m chopping this from my (still) untitled work-in-progress. I’m still in the early stages of writing this one but I like it so much that it’s fun to let little glimpses sneak out into the world. Feel free to share your thoughts.

Setting the stage – Sarah has just come back from grabbing a few things at the grocery store to find that her new neighbor has stopped by for unexpected visit…

***

“Sarah, please join us in the living room. It’s so rude to stand there talking in the doorway where I can’t even see you,” her grandmother interrupted. Sarah excused herself to put the bags in the kitchen and Nathanial offered to help. She agreed reluctantly. Every time his hand brushed her body, she felt the same ignition. If she did not manage to put distance between herself and the man soon, she feared she would burst into flames.

Alright, you’ve seen enough. Now, off you go.

Happy clicking!

GUTGAA Meet and Greet

First of all, thanks for taking the time to visit my blog. Please make yourself at home and enjoy your stay. I’m looking forward to meeting all of the participants of this year’s ‘Gearing Up To Get An Agent’ event hosted by Deana Barnhart. Deana has done an amazing job of putting together what promises to be a fun-filled event and although, I found out about it at the last minute and am still struggling to find my feet, I know I’m bound to have a good time.

So, to start it all off, I’m posting my meet and greet questions and brief bio to help others get to know a little about me. Here goes…

Questions for the Meet and Greet
-Where do you write?
Nine times out of ten, you’ll find me on the living room couch sitting in a lotus position with the laptop balanced on my lap. If I’m not there, I’ll be somewhere in the house. I rarely venture outside to write unless it’s with paper and pen to brainstorm.
-Quick. Go to your writing space, sit down and look to your left. What is the first thing you see?
Hey, guess what? I am already there! (Turning head to the left) I see a lamp, a family photo, and a big stack of magazines, books, and papers that one of these days I should get around to organizing. lol There might be a bit of dust there too but I’ll never admit to it… Nope, don’t see it. Don’t know what you’re talking about.
-Favorite time to write?
If I had a preference, it would be mornings when I’m most ready to tackle the day. In reality, it’s whenever I’m able to sneak in a few minutes.
-Drink of choice while writing?
Water is what I normally drink during the day but I have been known to indulge in a glass of wine or enjoy a rum or coke (or two… or three?) when I write in the evenings. All depends on how much fun I’m having or how much I need to unwind after the kids go to bed. ha ha
-When writing , do you listen to music or do you need complete silence?
I go both ways. I enjoy listening to music while I write and will often find that it helps put me in the write mood to get the words out but I’m just as happy listening to silence. Usually music is the catalyst to visualizing a particular scene and if I need to re-trigger those feelings, I’ll play it while I’m writing. Otherwise, whatever is on works.
-What was your inspiration for your latest manuscript and where did you find it?
You know, I’m not even sure anymore. I wanted to write a story about a woman involved with a man that she finds out is dangerous so that she’s torn between hanging on or letting him go. I didn’t want this to be an easy choice for her and if he was simply human, well, that would be too booorrring. (ha) I sat down to write, gave up on it like I usually do about ten pages into it, and forgot about it. I stumbled across it one day and thought hey, I really like that. I changed it around a bit and voila, the story was born. I often wonder about the inspiration for my stories though (not to mention, some of those crazy dreams I have!) and since I’m a paranormal writer, I have a few odd ideas about that too. As a matter of fact, one of these ideas is currently begging to transform into one of my next books. We shall see…
-What’s your most valuable writing tip?
Just do it. Seriously. It’s the one and only tip that truly gets me from Point A to Point B. Otherwise, I sit and worry and wonder so long that I never type a single word. Even if it’s crap, I need to just do it and tell myself I’ll fix it later. So far, I haven’t found any other way to finish a book than to actually put one word after another. Crazy!
And who am I?  I’m wife to one and mom to three. I have one self-published novel under my belt titled The Between World and I’m determined to follow a traditional path with my recently completed second novel currently titled Ghosts Don’t Wear Silk Stockings. Sitting down to start my third book over the next few days. (ooooohhh, I always get so excited to start something new!) I live in Pittsburgh and when I’m not writing or reading, you’ll find me doing yoga, camping, or spending time with my family. My stories often have a paranormal flavor to them and ghosts are a personal favorite. I’m an Aries, an INFP, and my favorite color is red. Find me on Facebook, Twitter, or come back to visit me again here on the blog. The doors are always open! Feel free to say hello.
Anything else you want to know? Just ask! I’m a friendly person.

Six Sentence Sunday – In Honor of August’s Blue Moon

Happy September! So this is it, then. Summer is over and the kids are back to school. The days are getting shorter. (Have you noticed?) It won’t be much longer before we’re packing away the shorts and t-shirts in favor of jeans and long shirts and grabbing a jacket before we head out the door. Sure, I feel a little sad about this. And believe me, even though I swore I’d be a big girl at the bus stop when my little guy started kindergarten, I still got teary walking back to the house. After this wonderful holiday weekend, I’ll be sending #3 to preschool. Man, time sure flies! But it’s not all sad, of course, because if you’ve been around my blog before, you might already know that I love the fall. I love the color in the trees and can’t wait to visit the farm to pick pumpkins. And of course, I’m relieved to enjoy some cooler temps because those hazy, hot, and humid days start to get to me after a while.

But anyway, I digress. We’re not here to talk about the weather, no matter how exciting that may be. (?) We’re not even here to mark the passage of time, even though it keeps marching steadily onward. It’s Sunday. We’re here to share six sentences! Oh yeah…

New to Six Sentence Sunday? Then you need to click HERE immediately and aquaint yourself with the other fabulous participants. There are so many greats to pick from and it’s always fun to find out what they come up with next. The official Six Sentence Sunday website makes it easy to hop from one to the next. What better way to spend a Sunday than discovering a new author offering a sneak peek of your next favorite book?

(Pick me! Pick me!)

As for my six, well, we all know I’ve posted plenty from Ghosts Don’t Wear Silk Stockings! Wooo weee… We’re getting bored with that one, aren’t we? Wait! Wait! Don’t say yes! You haven’t even read the book yet. You really have to stick with me long enough to read that book. (Planning to pimp it out during September’s ‘Gearing Up to Get An Agent’ event so keep your fingers crossed for me, K?)

But yeah, I finished the final edits on that one and after all that work, I think I need a rest. Don’t you? Dan may be drop-dead gorgeous but he’s starting to make my head hurt thinking about him too long. It’s time to move on to something new. A few weeks back, I shared six from the next novel (still untitled) that I’m writing. I introduced a very tense relationship between my two main characters Nathanial and Sarah. Remember it? No? Well, if you’re interested, you can click HERE and refresh your memory. As I embark on my newest writing adventure, I wanted to share another six from Nathanial and Sarah’s story so here goes…

***

It was a feeling that was difficult to ignore, almost as difficult as not being able to remember anything before moving in with Grandmamma.

The moon’s full glow cast an icy shimmer on the world outside her window making her feel like an alien in her own home. She shivered and pulled her knees into her chest resting her head. Her eyelids were drooping. She contemplated the last time she had a full night’s sleep and couldn’t remember. A moan in the upstairs bedroom reminded her of the only reason she stayed.

***

Like it? It’s got potential, I think. Guess I better quit my rambling and get back to writing. After all, you’ll want me back next week with a brand new six, right? Right?

Thought so.
